Canatu brings its carbon nanotube technology into animal health and diagnostics through the VALABio project

Canatu is expanding its carbon nanotube (CNT) technology into animal health and diagnostics through the VALABio project, applying its sensor platform in a new biological context.

The VALABio project (VALorization of Animal‑based By‑products into BIOactive innovations), coordinated by the University of Helsinki and supported by Business Finland Veturi funding, brings together academic and industrial partners to develop new ways to refine valuable bioactive ingredients from dairy and meat industry side streams. The project focuses on bioactive peptides, collagen‑based ingredients and milk‑derived extracellular vesicles, aiming to improve resource efficiency, support the circular economy and enable early diagnostic solutions for production‑animal health, food systems and future health applications.

The project combines advanced nanotechnology with extracellular vesicle research to enable earlier and more sensitive diagnostics—marking an important step in the Carbon Age program’s journey into new application domains.
