Veturi programs are Business Finland’s ecosystem and funding instrument that invites leading industry (often internationally scaling) companies to act as Leading Companies for innovation ecosystems. Veturi programs and leading companies are selected for their global ambition, ecosystem-building capabilities, and strong commitment to increasing research, development and innovation (RDI) efforts in Finland. Business Finland has selected Canatu, a deep tech company creating advanced carbon nanotube (CNT) products and reactors, as a Leading Company (Veturi) to drive the Carbon Age program.

The Carbon Age follows the Silicon Age as advanced carbon nanomaterials replace legacy materials at the forefront of technological progress. The Carbon Age program has been launched to accelerate this transition with advanced carbon nanotubes, Canatu CNT, enabling heightened performance with greater energy-efficiency. To co-innovate novel applications and new business opportunities, Canatu is building Carbon Age ecosystem of world-leading OEMs, technology suppliers and research institutions. As a Veturi initiative, the program also commits to strengthening Finland’s RDI expenditure toward a national 4 % of GDP.

Veturi programs are designed to evolve entire industries. By participating, partners gain influence over industry roadmaps, contribute to setting new global standards, advance frontier research and join a network of world-leading experts. As part of the Veturi program, Business Finland offers funding for co-innovation projects for ecosystem partners that de-risks innovation and accelerates time to market.

Co-innovation projects are collaborative R&D initiatives where companies and research organizations work together to develop new technologies or solutions aligned with the Carbon Age roadmap. To participate, partners propose a project idea that fits one of the program’s key themes (Microsystems, Electrochemical Sensing, Emerging Frontiers).

Each project follows clear IP principles based on Business Finland’s Veturi framework. Typically, project-specific IP remains with the contributors, while shared learnings, standards, and methods strengthen the broader ecosystem. The model promotes both fair value distribution and knowledge circulation across the network.

The Carbon Age program welcomes OEMs, technology suppliers and research institutions who want to be at the forefront of industry transformation – co-innovating novel applications and new business opportunities with advanced carbon nanotubes, Canatu CNT.
